PHILIPPINE CONSULATE GENERAL OPENS THE 14TH GUAM FILIPINO ARTISTS' MONTHLY EXHIBIT

The Philippine Consulate General and the Guam Filipino Artists (GFA) opened the 14th GFA Art Exhibit, featuring a one-man art show of Mr. Christian Mahilum on Friday, 12 April 2013, at the Philippine Consulate General.

As a painter for 50 years, this is Mahilum’s first one-man art exhibit.   A native of Negros Occidental. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, major in Advertising Arts from the University of Sto Tomas. His paintings usually depict things in his surroundings which fascinate him as bright, colorful, beautiful and lovely. His favorite subject are nature and people. His word of advice to anyone who wants to be an artist: Believe in yourself that you can do anything you would like to do. Do not fail to impress yourself first before you impress others.

The exhibit of Mahilum showcases a collection of oil, soft and oil pastel and water color paintings. Subjects include scenery, portraiture and still life.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was led by Consul General Bayani V. Mangibin,  Senator Frank B. Aguon, Jr. and  Senator Tina Rose Muña Barnes of the 32nd Guam Legislature and Mr. Rolly Zepeda, President of the Guam Filipino Artists.

An important highlight of the opening of the exhibit was the induction of the newly installed officers and advisors of the Guam Filipino Artists headed by its President, Mr. Rolly Zepeda, and the presentation of the Legislative Resolution sponsored by Senator Frank B. Aguon,Jr.  to the newly promoted officer of the Consulate General Consul Maria Paz G. Cortes. END
