PHILIPPINE CONSULATE GENERAL OPENS THE  UNIVERSITY OF GUAM PHOTO EXHIBIT

The Philippine Consulate General in collaboration with the University of Guam (UOG), opened on Thursday, 24 January 2013 a photo exhibit entitled “Mythology meets Archeology”  (The Old Kiyyangan Village of Ifugao) at the Consular Area of the Consulate General.

The photo exhibit showcased the results of the 2012 University of Guam Archeological Field School in Kiangan, Ifugao on 04 June to 03 July 2012.

The archaeological investigations in the Old Kiyyangan Village constituted the 1st Field Season of the Ifugao Archaeological Project.  It was a community-led project, as well as a partnership between the Save the Ifugao Terraces Movement, Inc., National Museum of the Philippines, Kiangan LGU, Archaeological Studies Program, Ifugao State University, and the University of Guam.

The photo exhibit was arranged to coincide with the visit of Director Jeremy Robert Barns and Dr. Ana Maria Labrador, PhD of  the National Museum of the Philippines.  Part of the agenda of the visit is a lecture series in the University of Guam entitled  “Historical connections between Guam and the Philippines” and “Out of Manila: Nationalizing the National Museum of the Philippines” on 24  and 25 January 2013, respectively.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was led by Consul General Bayani V. Mangibin, Senators Dennis G. Rodriguez, Jr.  and Frank Blas Aguon, Jr., of the 32nd Guam Legislature, Dr. John A. Peterson, PhD, Vice President of the University of Guam, Dr. Stephen Acabado, PhD of the University of Guam and Director Jeremy Robert Barns of the National Museum of the Philippines.

Other guests during the opening of the exhibit include professors  and students from the University of Guam, leaders and members of the Filipino Community and Guam Filipino Artists,  Ms. Jacqueline Balbas, Project Coordinator of the Guam Council on the Arts and Humanities Agency (CAHA) and friends from media.  END
