STO. NIÃO GUAM: FIESTA CELEBRATION

The traditional Feast of Santo Niño Guam was celebrated by Filipinos on Guam with a Holy mass at the Dulce Nombre de Maria Cathedral-Basilica on 13 January 2013.  The Holy mass was officiated by Archbishop Anthony S. Apuron, OFMCap.DD of the Archdiocese of Agaña and concelebrated by ten (10) other priests headed by Archbishop Orlando B. Quevedo, OMI, DD of Cotabato who delivered the homily during the mass.

Many Filipinos brought their statues of Sto. Niño to be blessed during the mass and joined the procession of the images of the Sto. Niño de Guam  around the cathedral after the mass. Many devotees likewise performed the traditional and ritual dance ‘Sinulog” in honor of the Santo Niño during the  short procession.

Senators Dennis G. Rodriguez and Frank Blas Aguon, Jr.  of the 32nd Guam Legislature together with their families attended the Mass and also joined the small “salo-salo” prepared by the sponsoring Filipino Associations. The Officers and staff of the Consulate General, together with their families also attended the celebration.

The celebration continued with cultural presentations of the Ati-atihan, Sinulog and Dinagyang in Dededo, Guam.

The fiesta was sponsored jointly by the Aklan Association of Guam , Capizeños of Guam , Cebu Association of Guam and Iloilo International. END
