The Philippine Consulate General in Agana, in cooperation with the Guam Filipino Artists (GFA), opened the 4th Monthly Exhibit at the Consulate General, featuring brothers Meliton "Mel" Santos, Jr., and Michael "Mike" Santos.
The Santos brothers are both in the field of photography. Their exhibit consisted mainly of captured images of scenery and landscape on Guam and the Philippines, including photos taken in Corregidor by Mr. Mike Santos. One of these is entitled "Corregidor", which shows the ruined walls of some buildings in the island. Another photo entitled "Brotherhood", captured a bronze statue of two soldiers against the backdrop of the ruins in Corregidor, where one of the soldiers was depicted as helping the other who was injured. These photographs are very timely and relevant to the recent celebration of the Philippine holiday, Araw ng Kagitingan (09 April).
Mike Santos is a graduate of Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science at the University of Guam. His interest in photography started when he was in college. In partnership with a friend, they produced the 2006 Guam Scenic calendar which was sold in local stores in Guam. He is now a freelance event photographer. On the other hand, Mel Santos owns a construction company in Guam and does photography only as a hobby. His passion for photography however is also fueled by his love for his children, who are his favorite subjects.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the exhibit was led by Consul General Bayani V. Mangibin and Speaker Judith T. Won Pat of the 31st Guam Legislature. Sen. Dennis Rodriguez, Jr. and other members of the GFA, Filipino community and the Consulate General's media friends also attended the event.END
