On 28 March 2012, Guam Governor Eddie Baza Calvo administered the oath of office of three new members of his cabinet, which includes Filipino-American Alfredo O. Antolin, Jr., Director of the Agency for Human Resources Development (AHRD).  Two others sworn into office were Mr. George Santos, Director of the Guam Department of Labor and Mr. Monte Mafnas, Director of the Department of Land Management.

During the ceremony, Gov. Calvo emphasized that his administration does not look into one's ethnicity or political affiliation and instead, they focus on the qualifications of the people they appoint to head key agencies of the government.  He also emphasized that what is important is the appointee's willingness to serve the people of Guam.

While Gov. Calvo is a Republican, Mr. Antolin is a known Democrat who has a Bachelor of Arts Degree, Major in Politics and History from the Salve Regina University in Rhode Island, USA, and an Associate of Arts Degree in Social Science, Major in Liberal Arts and Political Science.  Prior to his appointment as AHRD Director, he served as consultant for the office of Senator Rory Respicio and Senator Judith Guthertz, members of the 31st Guam Legislature.  He has likewise served as Project Coordinator IV/Administrator for Special Projects at the AHRD from April 2005 to May 2006.

Philippine Consul General to Guam, Hon. Bayani V. Mangibin, joined the family of Mr. Antolin and other members of the Filipino community in witnessing the swearing in ceremony held at the Governor's Complex in Adelup, Guam.   Requested by the Governor to say a few words, Consul General Mangibin congratulated Mr. Antolin on his appointment and expressed great pride for his achievement.  Consul General Mangibin also thanked Gov. Calvo for appointing a Filipino to his Cabinet, emphasizing that this also reflects on the deep and strong ties between the people of Guam and the Philippines.

Mr. Antolin was nominated for the directorship on 03 March 2012 and was confirmed by the Guam Legislature on 19 March 2012.END
