15/11/2011: Eskwelahang Munti Graduates 3rd Batch of Students
The Eskwelahang Munti, an informal school for Filipino children on Guam, graduated its third batch of students last Saturday, 12 November 2011.
A project initiated in 2009 by former Consul General Olivia Palala in partnership with the Filipino Community of Guam, the Eskwelahang Munti aims to establish Philippine heritage classes as a tool for inculcating Filipino values, culture and language in Filipino-American children.
It officially started in February 2010 with Mrs. Mila Moguel as its Principal. Each semester is composed of ten (10) meetings, conducted every Saturday from 9-12N. A core of volunteer teachers, which include Dr. Clarizza Quan, Mrs. Concepcion Viray, Mrs. Fernabel Dela Peña, and Mrs. Moguel, lead each class in learning Filipino songs, dances, geography, history and language.
The current batch of graduates was composed of eight (8) children ages 4 to 10 years old. The previous semesters had 5 and 15 graduates, respectively.
