Filipino Community in Guam Remembers the Martyrdom of Dr. Jose P. Rizal
Members of the Filipino community and the officers and staff of the Philippine Consulate General in Agana, Guam today honored our National Hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal through a flag raising and wreath-laying ceremony held at the official residence of the Consul General, where a bust of Dr. Rizal stands.
Remembering Rizal’s martyrdom at Bagumbayan 114 years ago, Acting Head of Post, Consul Kerwin Orville Tate, led the ceremony centered on the national theme Rizal: Haligi ng Bayan. He also welcomed the members of the Laguna Association of Guam, which donated Dr. RIzal’s bust two years ago, and the officers of the Filipino Community of Guam.
Ms. Aida Miranda, President of the Laguna Association of Guam together with Mr. Alex Gagaring, President of the Filipino Community of Guam, joined Consul Tate in leading the wreath-laying at the foot of Dr. Rizal’s shrine.
